The very first film we made was called ‘Di’Di’s Story’ . Made out of our founder Sarah Cunliffe’s spare room, it told the story of a pet orangutan called Di-Di. Taken from the forests of Borneo, and sold to a family in Taiwan, our story followed her return to the forest, and highlighted the issues facing these rare great apes and the destruction of their rainforest home.  That was in 1996.

Under Sarah’s lead as MD, we have continued to make films that raise awareness and make change. And over the last 25 years, a lot has  happened since those early days  working out of that spare room

Today is another seminal moment in our history as we welcome Kirstie McLure into Big Wave to become our new MD and Sarah transitions to CEO.  Kirstie comes to us with a big track record having been MD of Pioneer Productions, one of the world’s leading producers of innovative, award-winning factual content.

Kirstie is a real live wire with a huge track record, and brings a shared passion for all things science, wildlife and history. We are all really excited at Kirstie’s appointment’ says Sarah.

Kirstie has overseen hundreds of hours of content for broadcast, cable and online providers.   A passionate innovator, she brings a unique set of skills and experience to Big Wave as we builds our output.

“Big Wave’s programming & the team’s passion was a big draw. We share so many creative interests & a drive to make change. This is a very exciting time to become part of the company” says Kirstie.

We’re excited as the next chapter in Big Wave’s journey opens.
