Repost from @thesharkdoctor - an amazing reel made Repost from @thesharkdoctor - an amazing reel made in the top secret location of our new @discovery show. Thank you to the scientists for fantastic work in front of the camera and the camera, boat, dive, and production teams for all your hard work behind the scenes. None of this could have happened without everyone pulling together and we’re hugely grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to make this show happen. More coming soon!👀🦈 #sharkweek #discovery #africa #sharkshow #documentary #shark

Grateful for the life I get to live! Just returned from perhaps one of my best @sharkweek expeditions yet! I cannot share where we were or what we were doing but this location is a first for #sharkweek and I was beyond honored to be a part of it. To be honest, I was extremely nervous about this one as I had zero idea of what to expect but the team I got to work with was beyond professional and they made the magic happen!

I don’t get to share footage from my dives…bc we have to keep you in suspense 😉…so we snuck in one quick freedive while waiting for the real shark action. Is this juvenile #silvertip the reason we were at this remote location…maybe…maybe not. Actually it’s not - and what we actually encounter was truly out of this world so I cannot wait to share it with you this summer.

Either way, thanks to the @bigwavetv team for this opportunity and thanks to the @cressi1946 team for always supporting my work! Live the life you dream!

January - tis the season to party! 🎉
After a very busy holiday season, we finally managed to get our different teams together to celebrate a brilliant 2022 and the first Big Wave Christmas in Brighton. It was great to see so many faces old and new around the table and to all share what we're working on. There was even some dev brainstorming happening over a margarita or two! 🍸

Thank you so much to everyone who came, we can't wait to do it again soon with the whole team when they’re back from the field. A very belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Big-Wavers! 🦈🎄

There’s no prep for today’s Insta post - we’re coming at you live from the field! 🌊

Having a smashing time filming with @sussexunderwater and @jamesblakefilm catching up with all that’s been happening with the Sussex kelp since the trawling ban in 2021. Spoiler alert - it’s good news!

We can’t wait to properly release the results, but at the moment researchers are seeing really promising signs that the kelp is coming back. There might even be a special BBC film in the works to share the positive news … 👀

We love being part of this project and it’s testament to the hard work of all the organisations involved that now we’re finally seeing some results - @sussexwildlifetrust @bluemarinefoundation and @sussex_ifca 🐬

We’ll leave you with the happy faces of local kelp diver and campaigner, Eric Smith, and Big Wave founder and director Sarah, celebrating with a frond-ly wave and a giggle! 🐠

It’s officially been 1 week since a landmark win for sharks at Cop 27 🏆

On Thursday 17th November, world leaders voted to approve the suggestion put forward by Panama to add over 50 species of sharks to the CITES Appendix II. This decision will regulate and limit the commercial trade of the sharks most targeted by the fin trade. This includes the charismatic requiem family (that’s blues, bulls, blacktips and many others), bonnethead sharks and hammerhead sharks.

According to Luke Warwick, associate director at the Wildlife Conservation Society's Sharks and Rays program, before this decision “around 25% of shark’s subject to the fin trade were protected," but with this new plan, “about 70% of sharks will be protected.”

While we celebrate this historic decision, enjoy this close up of a great hammerhead Sphyrna mokarran taken from our 2021 @discovery show, The Great Hammerhead Stake Out. The doc followed Dr Tristan Guttridge and James Glancy, as they investigated rare sightings of these critically endangered sharks in the Bahamas - from a tent suspended in the ocean!
